Hyphessobrycon amapaensis (count:10)

Characins - Tetras, Pencilfish, Hatchetfish, lot number 257

One of the new tetra species.  Its conspicuous features include a bright/bold red glowing line with a black streak underlying the anterior of that line.  The glow stripe is similar to that on the glowlight tetra, but to my eyes the bold red makes this species more desirable.  This rare species currently sells for $15 each at Wet Spot (where I obtained my specimens).  The females get noticeably more plump (in photo, male is in front with plump female in back), allowing me to isolate males from females.  I have spawned these several times using a pair over a spawning grid.  Once being reunited, my specimens spawn the next day.  The percentage of fertilized eggs varied depending upon which male I used, and the hatchlings are on the smaller side.

This lot includes juveniles / young adults.
