You can also send a notice through this site, which asks for everything the law requires a notice to contain. Either way it reaches the same person.

What a notice has to say

To be effective under section 512(c)(3), a notice must include all six of these:

1. Your physical or electronic signature - typing your full legal name counts.
2. Which copyrighted work you say is being infringed.
3. What on this site infringes it, with enough detail for us to find it. A web address is best.
4. Your address, telephone number and email address.
5. A statement that you have a good faith belief the use isn't authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them.

What we do when one arrives

We remove or disable access to the material promptly, tell whoever posted it what happened and why, and pass on your notice, including your contact details, so they can respond to it. We record a copyright strike against their account. A notice that leaves out any of the six parts above may not be acted on.

If your material was removed by mistake

Send a counter-notice to the agent above. Under section 512(g)(3) it must include all four of these:

1. Your physical or electronic signature - typing your full legal name counts.
2. What was removed, and where it appeared before it was removed.
3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
4. Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice or their agent.

If we get a valid counter-notice we pass it, including your contact details, to whoever sent the original notice. Unless they tell us they've filed a court action to stop you, we put the material back between 10 and 14 business days later, and the strike stops counting.

Repeat infringers

We keep a record of the valid copyright notices we receive about each account. An account is warned each time and closed at 3 strikes, though we may act sooner where the infringement looks deliberate or serious. We don't count notices that are withdrawn, that we believe are invalid, or where the material went back up after a counter-notice. This policy is part of our terms and conditions, and an account closed under it may not be replaced with a new one.
