One of the licorice gourami species, and a nicely colored one. These fish are shy to those of us peering in - they are best observed from a distance. They should have very soft water, and I keep mine in 100% r/o with some peat added. The male spawns on the roof of a cave and guards the bubblenest until the fry leave the cave. I used a terracotta cave.
I feed the adults bbs and black worms (which they love). My mistake on the first try was leaving all three adults in the tank once the fry left the cave. I saw several fry the first day, but shortly after it became apparent the the adults picked off the fry. On the second try, once I saw the hatchlings I removed all adults but the brooding male. I removed the male once the fry started to vacate the cave -- and that approach produced about a dozen fry. The fry are growing slowly, so what I have are over 2-month old, but some are yet to reach half an inch.
This is my BAP bag of four fry.
