This is a Billbergia hybrid which is a bromeliad that is an epiphyte and can grow any place it is attached to not just in soil. It can even grow out of a fish tank and does best in high light. The flower it produces is what is is prized for. Some can flower yearly or will put out a new pup plant and grow in a tight bunch and those will continue to flower.
