Dried Veggies for Ancistrus, Shrimp, etc

Live food cultures, lot number 461-18
Bred by this user

One large bag of dehydrated veggies for Ancistrus, shrimp, snails and livebearers to nibble on.  I use dried veggies more often than fresh because dehydrated veggies are less likely to foul the water.  As the plant tissue rehydrates, the critters start nibbling on that softer tissue while the tissue on the inside is stiffer and more dehydrated.  This slows the break down of the veggies.  The bag has all kinds of veggies like broccoli, Swiss chard, zucchini, squash, basil, dill, radish even corn cobs.  They all have their own advantages.  Cole crops like kale, broccoli, Swiss chard and cabbage are all very high in calcium so they are great for snails and Ancistrus but use sparingly with shrimp because the calcium forms a secondary bond with the shrimp's chitin.  That bond can make it hard to molt and may cause death especially with older larger female shrimp.  Ancistrus especially like zucchini and squash while shrimp will devour dried string bean leaves.  Most of these were grown in my garden.  All of these and more are in the bag so enjoy experimenting.  I use a lot of dried leaves just like people use Almond leaves. Bacteria breakdown the leaves, protozoans feed on the bacteria/fungus, and fry feed on the protozoans!  Try these dried veggies and see the difference it makes compared to fresh veggies/leaves in the fouling of the water.

PS..... at home, take the veggies out of the bag and hang them up in the included mesh bag with the plastic "C" shaped hook also included in a dry place so they stay dehydrated.  If they get moist, they could spoil.  Note there is also a bent fork in the bag. Stick a piece or two of the veggies on the fork and hang it from the top of your tank into the water.  Critters will then flock to the dried veggies as they rehydrate.
