The L399 Pleco "Elegant Zebra" (often listed as Hypancistrus sp.) is a striking dwarf pleco known for its high‑contrast black body marked with bold white or cream striping, giving it a dramatic tiger‑like appearance. In the home aquarium, it is mostly nocturnal and somewhat reclusive, preferring tight caves and showing mild territorial behavior toward other plecos, especially around hiding spots. This species does best in clean, well‑oxygenated water with strong flow and a protein‑rich diet. In nature, the L399 Pleco originates from clear, fast‑moving tributaries of the Amazon basin in Brazil, where it inhabits rocky riverbeds with abundant crevices and shelter.
