This group of 5 wild caught Geophagus dicrozoster were acquired from Tangled Up in Cichlids and collected from 'Puerto Carreno' near the border of Columbia and Venezuela. They are 4 years old and now a mature breeding group. I have them in a 120g tank with Geophagus sveni which have outgrown them and I need to separate the two species. My limited tank space is such that it's better to rehome them. These fish need a big tank with clean water and regular water changes. They eat everything. A couple years back the group went through some trauma when I was away for 2 weeks and early signs of HITH (hole in the head) appeared which I treated and have not seen any issues since. Most recently I saw a pair spawn in the crowded SA community tank but eggs were gone shortly after. They need to be in their own tank or in a large tank with mellow tankmates. Photos were taken a few weeks ago when a pair was spawning on the driftwood you see in the pictures.
