The L401 catfish, scientifically known as Hypancistrus sp. (L401), is referred to by several common names, including:​ Rio Curua Pleco​, Yellow Zebra​, Royal King Alenquer Pleco​, Alenquer King Tiger​, Hypancistrus Gold Line​.  These names reflect the fish's distinctive appearance and its native habitat in the Rio Curuá region of Brazil. ​

The L401 catfish is a striking addition to freshwater aquariums, celebrated for its distinctive black and white striped pattern reminiscent of a tiger. Typically, these plecos reach a maximum size of approximately 4 inches (10 cm). They are peaceful and can coexist harmoniously with other non-aggressive species, provided that their need for ample hiding spaces and territories is met.
