Checkered Barbs, Small, Lot of 6 unsexed

Cyprinids - Barbs, Danios, Rasboras, lot number 77

Checkered barbs (*Oliotius oligolepis*) are charming and peaceful fish that make an excellent addition to a community aquarium. Their striking appearance features a golden-silver body adorned with a pattern of dark, checker-like markings, giving them their name. These active yet gentle fish thrive in groups of six or more, displaying their best colors and social behaviors when kept together. They prefer a well-planted aquarium with plenty of swimming space and stable water conditions, including a temperature range of 72-79°F (22-26°C), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water (5-15 dGH). Checkered barbs are undemanding eaters and will readily accept high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like daphnia and brine shrimp. Their peaceful nature makes them ideal tankmates for other similarly tempered species. During breeding, males become even more stunning, developing vibrant reddish-orange hues on their fins and body, contrasting beautifully against their checkered pattern. With their lively yet non-aggressive temperament and eye-catching coloration, checkered barbs bring both energy and elegance to any well-maintained freshwater aquarium.

They reach a maximum adult size of about 1.5 to 2 inches (4 to 5 cm) in length. Males are typically more slender and colorful, especially during breeding, while females are slightly rounder-bodied and less intensely colored. Despite their small size, they are active, hardy, and full of character—making them great candidates for smaller community aquariums.
