Hyphessobrycon cyanotaenia
A group of fry, hatched in August, measuring 1-2cm in length.
The parents were from a group of 6 donated to the 2025 MAS Expo from The Wet Spot.
A beautiful uncommon mid-sized tetra, once comfortable in their home they show an amazing light blue iridescence over their otherwise silver bodies and the more dominant individuals getting rusty-red finnage. I moved my school into my 40 gal South American community tank after a few attempts at colony breeding in a 10 gal and their color exploded! They loved the extra space to do their zoomies.
These fry were started on vinegar eels but have been upgraded to frozen BBS and high quality powder foods.
Like a lot of their Characin kin, they are hard as all heck to photograph!
I apologize for the small group size. I've only had success rearing about a dozen fish between a total of 3 or 4 spawns >.< Hopefully, as I perfect my process, there will be more of these in the future.
Favors soft acidic water, spawned in a species-only tank with water around 6.0 pH, but later raised in water around 6.5. Feel to reach out with any questions. If you would like further information on how I spawned them, I plan to give a mini presentation at the next opportunity we have for BAP chat.
