Ramshorn Snails (Planorbidae)

Snails and other inverts, lot number 520-3

Ramshorn Snail (Planorbidae)

Scientific Name: Planorbella duryi and Planorbarius corneus Common Names: Ramshorn snail Family: Planorbidae Distribution: Widely found in freshwater habitats across the world. Description: Ramshorn snails are small freshwater snails with distinctive planispiral shells, resembling a coil or ram's horn. They come in various color forms, including black and red, the latter having hemoglobin-based red blood. Size: Typically grow up to 2-3 cm in diameter. Lifespan: Usually live up to 1 year. Diet: These snails are omnivores, feeding on algae, dead plants, and uneaten food in aquariums. Breeding: Ramshorn snails are hermaphroditic, meaning any two snails can reproduce, laying egg bundles on surfaces such as plants and tank walls.

Aquarium Use: Commonly found in home aquariums for algae control. While they can become prolific in tanks with excess food or detritus, maintaining proper balance helps control their population. They can be used to cycle new tanks or as pets, and are also popular as feeders for darters, loaches, assassin snails, and pea puffers.

Auction Details: I have some aquarium pest snails that I would like to get rid of! On the day of bagging, I will collect as many as I can from all my tanks. I have over 50 tanks, so I may be able to net a good amount. These snails are great for cycling a new tank, as pets, or as feeders for loaches, assassin snails, pea puffers, and other snail-eating species.
