Alder Cones are an amazing way to add tannins to a tank!
I collected these Alder Cones from local trees along the bank of Minnehaha Creek. I believe the species of alder was Alnus glutinosa. All cones were collected from branches, none from the ground. I only harvested cones that were "ripe" (thoroughly dry and came off the branch with little-to-no force). All cones were cleaned by sitting in direct sunlight for about 5-6 hours. Depending on personal preference, the cones can be prepped by either rinsing or steeping them. Don't pay for shipping your tannins from the opposite side of the globe! Buy local!
I only counted how many cones equaled 10 grams one time. ALL bags will contain 10 grams of cones, I am not counting cones per bag, I am measuring out 10 grams per bag.
