Apistogramma hongsloi

Cichlids - South American, lot number 849-9

Up for auction are (4) unsexed Apistogramma hongsloi fry. I will do my best to get a mix of sexes, but the females are harder to distinguish at this size. They were free swimming on 3/3/2024, and are beginning to reach sexual maturity. The males are starting to show some great color! Apistos are my favorite fish - you just can't beat the behavior of both parents caring for and protecting their fry. These fish can be housed in a community aquarium with some caveats, especially if you have a pair and are hoping to breed them. They are bottom-dwellers, and therefore don't appreciate other bottom-dwellers like Corydoras, Ancistrus, etc. They do best as a pair with a group of top-dwelling, small-mouthed characins (Nannostomus being my choice).

Being south American fish, they prefer water on the softer side. I use mostly RO water with a little bit of my liquid rock tap water mixed in to achieve a 7.2 pH and ~100 ppm TDS.
